šŸ’ŖšŸ¼ Commit to Discipline

Don't Give Up. Adapt & Overcome.

The Power of Compounding

It took me 30 years to discover that everything meaningful in life is the result of compounding.

  • Consistent reading and development = Knowledge

  • Consistent time in the gym = Muscle Growth

  • Consistent diet, nutrition, and boundaries = Health

  • Consistent dedication at work = Craftsmanship

  • Consistent investing = Wealth

  • Consistent spiritual discipline = Sanctification

Those who get results are those who commit to discipline; they repeatedly do the same thing over and over again.

It is important to note that you need to pick the right discipline! Letā€™s take investing for example:

  • $100 per month into $NKLA for the past 4 years would have bled your money (they filed for bankruptcy this past month). Your $5K investment would be about $1.5 right now.

  • $100 per month into $VOO for the past 4 years would have turned $5K into about $7K.

Once you pick the right discipline, you just have to plod away for the long-haul. Those who commit to discipline make a score-card out of the disciplines themselvesā€¦ not the end result that they are waiting for.

Judging yourself by the metric of ā€œHave I arrived yet?ā€ is the quickest way to give-up. Focus on the things you can control that LEAD to the results you want!

A picture worth a thousand disciplines šŸ–¼ļø

For any who have been around me the past few weeks they have seen this at least 3+ times! Iā€™ve used it for a leadership huddle, a volunteer training, a sermon, I have a print hanging on my office wall, and I drink coffee from a mug with this graph depicted on it.

Itā€™s a visual representation of the power of compounding discipline. Stay dedicated even when you want to throw up your hands. You might have to adapt your disciplines, but good disciplines WILL beget results!

6 Month Retrospective

Speaking of committing to discipline but being aware of how to adapt and overcomeā€¦ Iā€™m adapting the format of Toil+Profit.

Each issue has beenā€¦ meatyā€¦
In pursuit of providing real value, I think itā€™s been the wrong type of value.

The past 6 months have essentially been database entries. Although some of you might have enjoyed that, I think most of us would rather grasp a simple application, while getting the opportunity to dive deeper via other means.

While I attempt to keep the Newsletter punchy while still providing an outlet for deeper content, by all means if you have feedback I would love the replies!

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
