🏅 Achievement Journaling
Celebrate the wins, be present in the journey, and stay locked in!

Goal setting BEGINS with knowing how to effectively plan your yearly goals, but to keep you engaged in pursuing goals and encouraged along the way, you need a flywheel that continuously moves you forward.
Achievement Journaling IS that flywheel…
🤷🏼♂️ WHAT is achievement journaling?
👨🏼🏫 DISCOVERIES from the last 4 years of Achievement Journaling.

What 🤷🏼♂️
Achievement Journaling is when you dedicate a journal for the specific purpose of tracking goals, milestones, and other various achievements throughout the year. One space for documenting:
Your Goals and their associated milestones.
The major events that happen throughout the year.
The side-projects you pick up.
The challenges you overcome.
Life-plans and other existential musings.
Make it one space and make it visual!
I got the idea for Achievement Journaling by asking myself how I would want to personally implement what I saw other top-performing teams do for cataloging their “wins.”
My old team used to write key concepts, goals, quotes, and other victories directly on the staff-meeting-table. I heard of bands who would paint and write all over their piano during the song writing process. One company gives their employees a plaque with a bunch of achievement sockets in it. Each project completed, year tenured, and other milestone crossed they add various medals to those sockets.
Notice how all of these methods are visual… I needed a way to produce the same affect, and keep it cheap! The solution was simple, grab a non-ruled journal and mark it up with colored pens, stickers, and other swag.
Discoveries 👨🏼🏫
General Effect
Writing things out that you intend to do, and documenting what has been accomplished along the way makes you treasure the memories uniquely and internalize them in a way that helps pave a path for further accomplishment.
Visualized Effort
You don’t realize all that you do in a given year UNTIL you document it. When you finish a year of Achievement Journaling, you’ll look back and be presently surprised at all the things you’ve done. Often we are focused on the bigger goals that we set out to accomplish, but along the way some of those larger goals require significant milestones, and sometimes you have to take detours into other projects. Since you were pursuing a particular goal you’ll think only in terms of DID YOU accomplish what you set out to do, or DID YOU NOT. When you achievement journal, you catch all the important moments along the way. You’ll see and appreciate all the effort that you invest over a year.
Trophy Wall
There are so many things you can collect throughout the year that can serve as a visual representation of a particular project, accomplishment, or stage of life. They serve as little trophies that you collect in your Achievement Journal as a type of trophy wall: A sticker from a coffee shop you worked on a project at or traveled to, a lanyard or wristband from a conference, or name badges from an event. For other items/events that don’t have stickers/tokens, you can just draw a little illustration.
I’ve even included my hospital ID tags from when my daughters were born, and I cut out the seal & signature from a certificate I received and taped it into my journal 😄

Blank Journal
Colored Pens
“Inbox” for Collecting Items to Add
I keep a note in my notes app; it houses everything needed to be moved to my achievement Journal. When I add the items to the journal, I delete them from the note.
Reminder for Documentation
Some things are BIG and you instantly think to add them. But there is a collection of smaller things that are easier to miss. I have two reminders a year to add notes to my Achievement Journal. This is sufficient for keeping up-to-date.
